Bangladesh is a disaster-prone country. Flood, Cyclone, Storm, Tornado, Drought, Monga etc are the common natural phenomena for Bangladesh. Gram Unnayan Karma (GUK) as a voluntary social welfare organization is always involved in disaster management program. The strength of GUK in disaster management originated from its basic foundation having root link with disaster prone areas. The long experience in facing manifold problems related to disaster preparedness, rescue, relief, rehabilitation and construction of flood shelters has enabled the organization to stand jointly with local, national and international bodies and agencies to combat the after effects of disaster in the days ahead. Basing on the efficiency and experience in the field of disaster management, GUK has become a pre-qualified partner organization of UNDP, UNICEF and WFP. The involvement of GUK as partner organization in implementing Food Security for the Ultra Poor (FSUP) and ER program also proves the organization’s capacity to work in disaster prone areas. During reporting period GUK has distributed relief goods among 4057 disaster victims & spent BDT 2077500.
